Several summers ago, in those lazy months where family reunions abound, I decided to help my children discover their familial roots with the crafty talents of my dear friend, Macy. (She is one of those women who makes everything look easy – including being a fabulous Young Women’s President, while building a home and raising five children.) And since Macy is consistently willing to share her creative gifts with others, and sews like a pro (something I have never been able to do), I hired her to make this darling family tree with four generations displayed. Her husband, Brigham, made the frame. And I’m proud to hang it right above the door where my children come and go each day. It’s definitely a homemade treasure – even though it wasn’t made in my own home.
Macy was clever enough to craft our family motto, “Flynn Family Forever” into the trunk, creating a limb for me and one for my husband, with our seven children lining the middle.
It’s a visual reminder – a mother’s mite – that beautifully illustrates what love, commitment and lots of love grows.
